I feel quite fortunate to work in the mental health field, particularly within the area of eating disorders and body image issues.  As a Jamaican and someone who attended graduate school in the 1990’s, I must admit that eating disorders was a foreign concept to me.  But in 1999 I experienced my first client who presented with eating disorders symptoms and I knew I had to learn as much as I could about these disorders.  It was at that time that I decided to research this topic for my dissertation and pursue a residency training program and post-doctoral fellowship with a concentration on eating disorders.

I have been working in the field as a licensed psychologist since 2003 and co-founded a group practice in 2007 (New Directions Counseling Center) in the Atlanta area.  In 2014, I decided to take on the endeavor of starting an iaedp chapter in Georgia, service as the Founding President from 2014-2016.  During that time I also became the first therapist in the Atlanta area to become an iaedp™ Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) and I have since become an Approved Supervisor.  Then, in 2017, I was surprised and grateful to learn that iaedp™ had awarded me with the Spirit Award.

It has been an honor to serve as an iaedp™ Chapter Board Member and meet brilliant movers and shakers in the eating disorders treatment community.  I continue to learn a great deal and am eager to continue developing as a clinician and supervisor.  Thank you to the iaedp™ Foundation for all you do for treatment professionals and all you have done to enhance my professional career and clinical skills.
